Balboa

Balboa is a type of swing dancing that developed in the 1920s and ’30s in Southern California. A “dancer’s dance”, Balboa has smaller scale movement allowing dancers to more easily express themselves to even the fastest of tempos.

Our Balboa classes are divided into 3 levels - Balboa 1, Balboa 2, and Balboa 3. 

Balboa 1

(4 courses, 6 weeks each, 1.5 hour per week)

Prerequisite: None

No partner required. We rotate partners often in class.

 

You must complete all 4 courses before moving to Balboa 2.  

Balboa 1.1 - Introduction to Balboa (6 weeks)

Balboa 1.2 - Balboa Fundamentals (6 weeks)

Balboa 1.3 - Building Balboa Vocabulary (6 weeks)

Balboa 1.4 - Intro to Balboa Styling (6 weeks)

Balboa 2

(4 courses, 6 weeks each, 1.5 hour per week)

Prerequisite: Balboa 1 or equivalent

No partner required. We rotate partners often in class. 

Balboa 2.1 - Refining Balboa Technique (6 weeks)

Balboa 2.2 - Balboa 2 Vocabulary (6 weeks)

Balboa 2.3 - Classic Balboa Moves & Patterns (6 weeks)

Balboa 2.4 - Balboa Styling 2 (6 weeks)

Balboa 3

(Ongoing - Run in 6 week sessions, 1.5 hours per week)

Prerequisite: Balboa 2 or equivalent

No partner required. We rotate partners often in class. 

Balboa 3 is for our intermediate/advanced students who are comfortable and proficient with all the material in our Balboa 1 & 2 levels. This course will focus on continuing to refine technique and build more complex vocabulary and styling. Concepts will be tailored to the needs of the students enrolled.
